Bornean Orangutan

The Bornean Orangutan

The Bornean orangutan is adorable! Their faces make me think of plates. They have a kind of flat circular type of face. I really recommend searching images of them because they are so cute!

The Bornean orangutan is actually really interesting. Did you know that they have 97% of the same DNA as we do? It’s incredible! They are actually really intelligent and can do so many things us humans can do!

However, these incredible animals populations are going down. In prehistoric times, these gorgeous animals lived all the way upto the forests in northern China! Amazing isn’t it?! Although now they have been pushed to the island Borneo, and their population is estimated to only be fifty-thousand to sixty-thousand! That’s so small for a species' (almost human) population. Per-usual, the reason for their small population is due to poaching, and their habitat being destroyed. So unfortunately they are now critically endangered.

I hope the few articles (more to come) have helped encourage you to support wildlife conservation! Like all my articles, here’s a link to a list of endangered animals. I encourage everyone to look at these endangered animals themselves as well.

Amur Leopard

The Amur Leopard

The Amur Leopard! What a gorgeous animal. They are actually kind of small for a leopard. The average size is only about 3 feet. They are so cute!

Like my other reports we're coming to the population. The Amur Leopard is critically endangered. The population is estimated to be about 60. That’s it, 60. This may seem like a big number, but for a population, it is extremely small.

There’s two reasons the Amur Leopard population is decreasing one. Poaching of their prey. Because their prey is decreasing, they have no food! Second, the leopards themselves are being poached! According to the website “animalplanet.com” their fur then turned into pelts can be sold for $1,000!

If you want to help fix this problem, find an organization to donate to to support wildlife conservation. You can’t donate here, due to me not exactly knowing how to set that up, but there are plenty of other places to donate to.

Per usual, here’s a link to a list of endangered animals. I encourage you to research endangered animals yourself as well. We need wildlife on our planet. Help save it.

I want to say thank you to worldwildlife.org for helping me find out about these endangered animals.

Vaquita

The Vaquita

The Vauita is the cutest little animal! It’s just like a tiny dolphin! They only grow to be about 5 feet long at the maximum! Imagine how cute! The vaquita actually aren’t a very known or common animal for people to hear about. At least in my opinion. However, they are critically endangered. And when I say critically endangered, I mean there’s only 10 left on the entire Earth

This is an extremely small population. Like I’ve said before in last reports, imagine the world population being ten. Nobody wants that.

I would really recommend searching vaquita and look at images. They are absolutely gorgeous. The reason the Vaquitas are so endangered is due to fishing nets. Like many other marine creatures, these animals get caught in the nets, struggle, and die. It’s not good. We need to stop this craziness.

Like usual, here’s a link to a list of endangered animals. You can also find information yourself to help support wildlife conservation! If you have any recommended animals for me to write about please please please let me know in the comments.

Saola

The Saola

The saola is not a common or heard of animal. To be honest, I haven’t known about them very long myself. But the population is low. The Saola has actually only been known to scientists since 1992. The population according to inverse.com is only 750. Scientists have only known about this species for 29 years, and in this short period of time, we have a population smaller than 1,000! It’s crazy! The Saola is obviously critically endangered.

The saola is actually quite a gorgeous animal. I recommend you to search it, it’s adorable!

I’m sure you’re wondering what is causing this extreme downsize, well it’s simple. Snare traps. The Saola is only located in the Annamite Mountains of Laos and Vietnam.

The world needs wildlife and we need to conserve it. Do you like to go on road trips and see bison, elk, koalas, snakes? And so many more? Then conserve wildlife! Myself and so many others are trying to get the message out to conserve wildlife!

Here’s a link to a list of endangered animals. I encourage all of my readers and others to find more information themselves as well. I also encourage telling your friends so we can get the message out there!

Sumatran Rhino

The Sumatran Rhino

The Sumatran rhino is critically endangered. Today the Sumatran rhino is mostly found in Sumatra. However, they were originally found in Assam, Burma, Thailand, Indochina, Malaysia, Sumatra, and Borneo. The fact that they are pretty much only found in Sumatra now, is devastating. This means that the population is rapidly dropping.

The Sumatran rhino lives in forests, bamboo forests, the bush, and marshy areas.

Ever since the 1930’s, the Sumatran rhino has lost 80 PERCENT of its population. That is such a high drop. In 2008 a population survey was taken, and the population was 220-275 adult Sumatran rhino adults. IUCN expects that we’re seeing this traumatic drop due to poaching. Now, the population is estimated to be less than 100 left in the wild.

There has been attempted breeding for Sumatran rhinos, but sadly has not been very successful. Also here is a link to a list of endangered animals! I encourage you guys to learn about endangered animals yourself to see the population drops and find more information. I also recommend photos of the Sumatran rhino! They are actually the smallest breed of rhinos!

Tasmanian Devil

The Tasmanian Devil

Who wouldn’t love a Tasmanian devil?! There are like adorable little dogs! While being quite vicious they are endangered. Which is not a good thing.

It’s stated in the name, but Tasmanian devils are from Tasmania. The population of Tasmanian devils is fastly decreasing. In the article “Tasmanian devil” it states, “In 1996 the number of Tasmanian devils living in Tasmania was estimated to be more than 150,000” (Britannica  Encyclopedia Editors). This quote tells you that not too long ago we had a vast amount of Tasmanian devils. Now read this quote, “From 1996 to 2007, however, this figure dwindled by more than 50 percent, and the adult population was thought to number between only 10,000 and 25,000” (Britannica Encyclopedia Editors).

That is an extremely dramatic drop in population. Imagine a state going from a population of 150,000 to 10,000. Not only is it a big drop, but that drop happened in less than 15 years. That is fast. Too fast. Now you may be wondering what caused this dramatic drop.

Sadly, it’s a contagious cancer. It’s called “devil facial tumor disease” or DFTD. This cancer causes very large tumors on the head and mouth. Which then causes eating problems, then leading to starvation and death. Scientists aren’t exactly sure what the cause of this is, but if you click the link below, it will explain more.

Save the Devils!

What is This Blog?

This blog is about finding information on endangered animals. That way, you will know where wildlife is going. Then you will hopefully support wildlife conservation. I absolutely love wildlife and I don't want to see it disappear. Earth needs wildlife to thrive and keep going. So let's conserve it, not hate it. Comment if you agree and have any suggestions for a blog post. I'm open to ideas.
